Good morning, Big Blue Nation! Sunday, September 5 — lots of news today, with football taking center stage.
First, congratulations to Judy B., our contest winner who came closest to predicting the final score! She takes home a Big Blue Dispatch coffee cup. We will get the cup and runner-up prizes mailed out later this week. Watch this space for more contests as the season unfolds.
We also hit a new record for newsletter views yesterday! Thank you for subscribing — it seems the game preview hit the mark. As always, send your feedback, suggestions, or criticism to contact@bigbluedispatch.com.
Now, on to the news.
The Herald-Leader offers the sharpest recap of the action, highlighting how Will Stein's head-coaching debut delivered everything Kentucky needed. Stein's offensive system looked comfortable, the team executed cleanly, and the Cats controlled the game from start to finish.
A Sea of Blue breaks down the victory with "Four Things You Need to Know." Youngstown State came out physical, but UK's overall depth and defensive adjustments wore the Penguins down over four quarters.
Over at Kentucky Sports Radio, catch the full game summary along with video highlights from Stein's record-setting opener. A great win for BBN, but it won't be long before attention shifts entirely to next week's massive test against Alabama.
Switching court to iconic turf: Kentucky Volleyball meets Penn State tonight at 7:00 PM at Wrigley Field. USA Today goes behind the scenes as Craig Skinner's squad adapts to the unique challenges of playing an outdoor match at Friendly Confines.
Finally, wrapping up with a piece of news from Friday that gave everyone a scare, but thankfully turned out to be a false alarm:
